The future of Perth’s urban landscape is taking shape with five key development projects receiving state and federal government funding through the latest round of the Housing and Infrastructure Planning Grant Program. These developments are part of a broader effort to unlock housing supply and improve livability across the Perth metro area—especially as the city continues to grow.
The total $55 million package has been allocated to local governments and development organisations to accelerate planning and infrastructure delivery. The projects chosen for funding reflect a balance of housing diversity, urban renewal, and long-term planning, with sites spanning from East Perth to the south-west corridor.
Among the most high-profile is the East Perth Power Station precinct, which has received $6.9 million to deliver water, power and roads to the site—laying the groundwork for a mixed-use precinct expected to deliver over 1,400 new dwellings. Meanwhile, Armadale's city centre will receive $2.2 million to fast-track planning for a new civic and residential hub that could result in 8,000 new homes.
The State Government is also contributing to projects with a more long-term focus. The Perth and Peel Urban Development Program has secured $22.5 million, targeting regional infrastructure upgrades to support future housing. Other notable recipients include DevelopmentWA, which will use funds to plan a major land release in Mandogalup, and the South Perth Peninsula precinct, where upgrades will support mixed-use development and thousands of new apartments.
With funding now locked in, planning and infrastructure work is set to ramp up quickly—something that’s essential in today’s tight housing market. As supply struggles to keep up with demand, these projects aim to ease pressure by unlocking more land, increasing housing density in key urban zones, and supporting mixed-use precincts that integrate housing with services and employment.
