One of Perth’s most anticipated cultural events is currently underway, with Sculpture by the Sea once again transforming Cottesloe Beach into a spectacular open-air gallery.

The exhibition began on 6 March and will run until 23 March 2026, giving visitors the chance to explore a unique collection of large-scale sculptures set along the coastline. Each year the event draws thousands of locals and visitors who come to experience art in one of Western Australia’s most scenic locations.

A Coastal Sculpture Trail

The exhibition stretches along the foreshore from the Cottesloe sea wall toward North Cottesloe, creating a scenic walking trail where visitors can view the artworks at their own pace.

More than 70 sculptures are on display this year, created by artists from Australia and around the world. Many Western Australian artists are also featured, giving the exhibition a strong local connection alongside international creativity.

The variety of works means every visit feels different. Some pieces are bold and playful, while others encourage reflection, using the natural surroundings of the beach, sand and ocean as part of the experience.

A Much-Loved Perth Event

Now in its 21st year at Cottesloe, Sculpture by the Sea has become one of Western Australia’s most recognisable arts events. Each year it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors who come to explore the exhibition, enjoy the coastal setting and experience art in a more relaxed and accessible environment.

The event’s return this year has been particularly welcome after the exhibition did not take place in 2025. Its comeback has been warmly embraced by both the arts community and the wider public.

Visiting the Exhibition

One of the reasons Sculpture by the Sea has remained so popular is its accessibility. The exhibition is free to attend and open daily, making it easy for families, visitors and art lovers to spend time exploring the installations.

Many people choose to walk the full sculpture trail along the beach, while others take their time exploring the artworks dotted across the grassed areas and pathways along the foreshore.

Celebrating Art and Lifestyle

Events like Sculpture by the Sea highlight the lifestyle appeal of Perth’s coastal suburbs. Combining art, nature and community, the exhibition offers a reminder that what makes a place special often goes beyond bricks and mortar.

With the exhibition continuing until 23 March, there’s still plenty of time to experience one of Perth’s most distinctive cultural events and enjoy the creative energy it brings to the Cottesloe coastline.
